Contains documentation from the various departments under the Department of Humanities and its previous iterations, including literary magazines, records and correspondence, department newsletters, copies of newspaper clippings, VHS tapes, and brochures.

Biographical / Historical

In 1987, Parkland became a founding member of the Illinois Consortium for International Studies (ICIS; later renamed Illinois Consortium for International Studies and Programs, or ICISP). Karen Keener served as Coordinator of International Education from 1991-1995. For more recent records, see RG 5-7.

Story Shop originated in 1975 as a writing contest for kindergarten through 5th grade and was a successful initiative for 18 years, closing in 1993. In 2007, Parkland College relaunched a writing contest through the P-20 Initiative for 7th and 8th grade students in District 505. Nationally-known authors, who were keynote speakers at the awards ceremonies, including Richard Peck, Rachel Vail, Ben Mikaelsen, and Marlene Targ Brill. 2012 was the last year for Story Shop. Included in this collection are letters, copies of newspaper clippings, awards ceremony brochures, guest of honor biographies, The Story Shop Books themselves, and other related materials.
